About Animals?

A brief history of the game.

Animals? was inspired by a very old computer game written in BASIC called Animal, originally developed by Arthur Luehrmann at Dartmouth College. It has been ported to many different computer systems.

The game is an example of a very simple expert system that uses a binary tree of questions and answers. Each question and answer you teach Animals? adds a new branch and leaf to the binary tree.
